What it REALLY Means to Live in Your Power
Live in your power. I say it to myself all the time. I say it to other people. On a daily basis I am tuning in to see how I can do it more often and with greater ease. At this point in my life I understand what this means because I have lived it. I‘ve experienced the exhilaration of being there and knowing what it feels like in every cell of my body. Recently I posted the beautiful mantra you see as the graphic for this post on my Facebook and Instagram accounts—I Live in My Power and Affluence is Mine. This is how I want to live my life, so I put it out there. A lot of people gave it the thumbs up, but as always a few people chimed in, just to make sure I knew where I should be coming from, with a scripture quote from the Bible. “Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord.”
I could have gotten all bent out of shape, which has happened in the past. “Why ya gotta quote the Bible at people? Why?” (I feel I totally understand this because I myself was raised in a conservative Christian home in which I was taught to be quite judgmental of others who did not believe as I did. The issue here though, is not about believing something different, but rather not understanding the depth of what you say you believe. I really wish people would understand that hurling scriptures at people really just pushes them further away and is really not showing God’s love at all. Alright, now that I’ve got that off my chest, let’s move on to the important stuff.) This time however, these comments got me thinking. What I realized is that most people have no clue what it actually means to live in their power.
Do you know what it means for you?
Power is a scary word, like a gun. It has all sorts of connotations, both good and bad. “He was a very powerful man.” “A powerful nation.” “She was in a powerful position.” What do these phrases make you think about? Might. The kind of power that is top-down, striving, claw your way to the top and walk all over anyone in my way kind of power. Don’t cross me, I’ve got connections that will squash you, do as I ask or else, kind of power. That’s certainly one kind of power, and frankly the kind of power that is quite pervasive in our world right now. But that’s not even close to what I am talking about when I say Live in Your Power.
One of my most potent, deep desires is to feel powerful. By that I mean that I deeply desire to live in my own power on a daily basis. Powerful means full of power. I want to be filled up by this internal, eternal power that already exists in me, and radiate that out into the world. But where does this power come from and how does it already exist in me? I know that many, many people, women in particular, when asked would deny that they feel they are powerful people.
The answer is simple. You came into this life already possessing all the power that you need in order to accomplish what you need to in this life. It was given to you, a gift from the Divine, wrapped up in a tiny little package with ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes. Now, what has happened to that power is a whole different issue.
For most people, by the time we’ve reached adulthood, we’ve lost complete sight of this innate power, instead endeavoring to gain the kind of worldly power that appears more prestigious and secure. How fleeting and unsatisfying that is! And then, at some point we turn once again to trying to understand ourselves on a deeper level—why we are how we are, what we really want out of life, how to tap the deep well of inner knowing, how to connect to a greater purpose. We’re mining, digging, excavating our way back to our own inner power; the power we were endowed with when we agreed to this life, and then somehow forgot in the commotion of childhood.
Living in your power means that you are tapping the well of Divine inspiration and truth, in whatever way that happens for you. Maybe you pray, maybe you meditate, maybe you walk in the woods, maybe you just know. Regardless of how, to live in your power means you are doing it on a regular basis, with each situation, with each decision, with each difficult conversation and with every glorious victory. Your intuition is flowing, you are dancing to the rhythm of the Universe, you feel the pulse of life, and you know in your soul that God has got your back, no matter what. You understand that speaking your truth is the kindest way to show love and that the desires you have in your heart, even the secret ones, are there not out of a selfish want to further yourself, but are truly life and God seeking to expand itself through you. How about that?
How about that?
So to those who misunderstand me, or perhaps just don’t yet understand their own power, I say this: “...by my spirit says the Lord” is exactly what I mean when I say I Live in My Power. All that beautiful, raw, radiant power in me, and in you, is absolutely Divine and it has everything to do with the Spirit inside of us.
Are you ready to live in your power? Have you been searching for that inner part of you that you feel is missing? Does the constant striving to be seen in this world exhaust you? How would it feel to step into something that already exists, that you already possess, and that is just waiting for you to recognize it so that it can blossom? Was that a “Hell, Yes!” I heard? If you’re ready to step up and step into a life that amazes you, click here and let’s have a conversation.
With deepest love and gratitude,
